EFFLORESCENSE

The EFFLORESCENCE  in this picture of a brick masonry structure is caused by allow moisture to saturate the masonry entirely. You see masonry is not made for total saturation because it cannot dry before either additional rain or freezing tempuratues. Either one continues to deteriorate the materials. When and if the contractor eliminates the access for the moisture then there is a drying period for the brick or masonry below that entry point. It can take week, months year sometimes to dry with our humid climate in the Chicagoland and Milwaukee areas. That is when the masonry shows it's integrity lost during the saturation period. This could be anything from mortar coming away or the face of the brick. If it's stone you see more staining letting you know it had moisture build up.
